Saturdays on the Porch #70
Saturdays on the Porch #70 is full of the latest happenings in life, fashion, books I'm reading, and home favorites.
Happy sweet Saturday to you all! I hope you've had a wonderful week. Last weekend was restful and spent it at the lake with our kids. We had a boat rented, but unfortunately, that fell through. That's OK! We had enough floats for us all which we tied to the dock. It was so relaxing. We try to stay at the Airbnb at least 1x per year to gauge the needs of the house.
The week before that, I invited myself on my hubby's business trip at the beach. We turned a Monday-only trip into a Monday-Friday trip. It was my first time at Surfside Beach in SC. It was a lovely time.

I shared a family and friend favorite of 35+ years: Citrus Adult Slushie
Have you laid eyes on our summer front porch yet? It's been so easy to maintain.
The Look
If you are a member of Sam's or Costco, I encourage you to check out their clothing while in the store. I got 2 pairs of these linen pants for under $14 back in the spring. They wash so well and are breezy for the heat.
I have been wearing this inexpensive turquoise necklace all summer. It's great to layer with other pieces for a pop of color.
My daughter shared these water-friendly Reef sandals with me. They are very comfortable and come in several colors. She has the black and tann option.
Tank | Sandals | Similar Linen Pants | Bracelet | Watch Band | Mirror
This tank and sandals have been on repeat. The sandals are a little pricey but very comfortable and well-made.
I am wearing a medium in this mesh tank sweater from Amazon. It is on sale right now. I kind of want more colors. I love wearing it with baggier, more relaxed linen pants. It balances things out well.
These NYDJ shorts are wonderful and a bit more polished. I appreciate the longer length. They do run large. These are an 8 and just too big. I have 2 other colors in a size 6.
The top was a surprise find. It comes in several colors. I am wearing a size small due to the wide arm holes. It's a great length for looser bottoms.
In the Kitchen
I tried a new recipe with my sourdough starter. Y'all, these rolls are amazing. I am making them for family dinner on Sunday. I melted butter and added some garlic powder and parsley to pour over them. Then I sprinkled them with grated parm.
Random Happenings
I love it when Ashlyn sends me photos of Sully. He is so precious. He loves going on walks outside. He now flies to the foyer closet door because he knows his harness and leash are stored there. He has very little sight. He can see shadows and light.
Our new roof was finished last week. It was a 2-year insurance battle that I'll be sharing more of soon.
We are replacing our 20-year-old carpet in our bedroom. We have decided to add reclaimed heart pine flooring in our living areas. We think it will be easier with pets.
The flooring will be delivered on Monday. It will acclimate in our home before it is installed and then finished.
We had to drive around to multiple places looking for suitable shoe molding for our baseboard. We found it on Thursday at a great place in Greenville, SC. They had an area of corbels. Aren't they fabulous? Wish I needed one. The Lumber Yard is celebrating 50 years!
We discovered Zapp's over the weekend. They are so good! You can find them at Publix.

What I'm Reading
I love to read AND listen to books. If you are looking for a way to get more steps in with your walking…..listen to books! You will want to keep walking to listen. I also listen while doing chores around the house. I will use my earbuds while walking, While in the house I will use a Bluetooth speaker that I can carry around with me or our Alexa.
I read actual printed books as well as on Kindle. I prefer my Kindle, but holding a real book occasionally is nice.
I've had my Audible membership for a while, and LOVE it! It gives me one book credit per month.
Let me share how I read on Kindle and listen to books. Get yourself a library card!
Then add the LIBBY and HOOPLA apps to your phone.
I will typically check to see if a book is available there first before using my credit or buying. Using these 2 apps with your library card is FREE!!! I love FREE.
There may be a waitlist if it is a newer title or popular. That's ok. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy. If I'm not willing to wait, I will just purchase. If it is new or popular, you NEED to finish the book in the allowed checkout time. Sometimes you can renew, and sometimes you may have to get back in the queue. If that happens, when it is available again…..it will download where you left off.
Get in the habit of always carrying a book with you to get in a little extra time. That way if you are waiting at the doctor's office or to get your car serviced….you are prepared!
It was my goal to read more than 12 books last year, and I completed that task. Check out that list which has been updated with my thoughts on the books. Here is my list for 2024. This is the list of definites for the year. I have a goal of 36 books this year. I will sprinkle in lots of audiobooks as well. Here is an update for 2024.
- Currently reading A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins
- Just finished The Cookbook Club by Beth Harbison and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- I just finished reading The Housemaid (book 1)
- The Heiress was a read for book club.
- Mercury
- The Magic of Sea Glass.
What We've Bought
- I took a chance on this Target skirt in black, and I can't wait to take photos with it! It has an elastic waist with pockets. The medium is perfect. I will wear it well into the fall.
- I also got this one-shoulder tank to wear with it in the brown and black stripe. Kind of a pinkish-brown vibe. I figured I'd send it back. I got a medium and like it with the skirt.
- I also ordered a similar skirt with a zip and button in a pink and cream stripe. Same great fit in a medium.
- I did order this cream tank as well, but it has not come in yet. Ordered in a size medium.
- These pull-on jeans were recommended in a Facebook travel group when my daughter asked about jeans. I love comfy and I hope these stand up to the hype. I got 2 pairs because based on reviews, I was unsure about length. I got a medium short in the dark because I figured I'd wear them dressier with ballet flats. I got the regular medium in the lighter color for sneakers and maybe flats. I'll keep you posted. They just shipped and are on sale! My fingers are crossed since they are under $45.
- My hubby ordered this hand massager, and he is obsessed with it! Great for carpal tunnel and arthritis. It massages and heats up. It has a 15-minute timer on it. I've used it as well. It does feel great.
- I used this fabulous float at the lake last weekend. It takes no time to blow up and is made very well. I lived in this thing all weekend and did not share! Ha ha! Ashlyn has “borrowed” for their neighborhood pool.
- I got myself a lady nose hair trimmer. It's so good!
- I will never use my slow cooker again without these liners!
- This little insect trap for the inside of your home works.
What Caught My Eye
I love wandering around the internet on my phone looking at fabulous gardening and decor ideas. Here are a few things I discovered recently.
PHOTO: ROBBIE CAPONETTO; STYLING: BUFFY HARGETT MILLER
I have become obsessed with my hydrangea in recent years. This Southern Living post has lovely inspirations for placement. The site also has some excellent articles on care.
PHOTO: James Farmer Design
James Farmer is by far my favorite modern-day interior designer. A few months ago I bought this coffee table book of his. It is a feast for the eyes. I have this one in my cart.
He has such a gift for accessorizing. He uses lots, but in such an elegant collected way.
PHOTO: The Cottage Journal
Many years ago, we stayed for a week on Cape Cod. My sister-in-law's husband's sister owned a cottage there. We rented that adorable purple house from her. We took a day trip to Nantucket and I was instantly smitten. This was over 20 years ago. To this day I dream of visiting Nantucket again. This home on Nantucket perfectly exudes the casual charm.
I've got my eye on this desk for the guest room. It would work double duty as a nightstand right in front of the window. I'd love to sit here and work on my laptop.
Thank you so much for being here today with me! I hope your weekend is joyful. XO, Christy
